Most people feel that social bartering groups are a waste of time and for the most part, they are. You can easily spend upwards to an hour reciprocating comments, likes, shares, and more which only brings you a handful of visitors who will never look at your blog again.
But, if you look at the bigger picture of social bartering you will understand how important it can be to help build your organic traffic to your articles. One thing that I PERSONALLY feel is key is that you have to do the social bartering with a plan… yes, a plan. Most bloggers will write an article, publish, market on their social media accounts, do some social bartering, and call it a day. Literally a day. They do all these efforts in one day. What does that mean? Search engines will see the traffic to the new article but it will cover a few days and then taper off to nil nothing.
What is better to gain organic traffic faster to your articles is to show search engines that your article has a shelf life of more than a week. To do this, I stagger my social bartering within my various groups over a few weeks. I have a spreadsheet that I use to track EVERYTHING from focus keywords, to social media posting, and more! One day I will work comments in one group, the next day I will work Google + likes in one group, and then… well, you get the picture. The key is not to do all your social media bartering at once and to stagger your efforts over a few weeks to keep consistent traffic to these articles.
